We think it’s a great idea for students to do some sort of live performance. The best thing is joining or starting a band. All the things you will have worked on in your lessons will make you prepared, and most importantly, you will have fun!
Other performance opportunities are also good to do. Students can come and play songs from their exam syllabus to the backing tracks. This is a valuable starting point, where all the parameters are controlled. You might still be using the notated score from the book, you know the backing track well, and nothing can go wrong with the arrangement. Many of our students start with this.
We have had students say that they just want to play songs at home, and they do not wish to perform. Whilst we respect their decision, we also say that not performing is like just practicing football penalties in the park, but not doing it in a game. They are two very different things…During practice you can try trick shots, you can shoot for the top corner etc without any real pressure or consequences. The risk of doing it in a real game is high, you might miss and the pressure can be great. If you score, you feel genuine elation that can’t be felt without earning it. If you miss, there are lessons to be learned, techniques to be worked on, and you can work on how to deal with pressure (a great transferable skill).
All the students who have taken part over the past couple of years have shown great improvements in their confidence and subsequently their grade exam results.
Venue
The Plough – Leigh Road, Hildenborough, Kent, TN11 9AJ
We have approx 500 students who could all be showcasing their skills. Just contact us to book a slot before Thursday night this week. We usually put the younger students on first and finish with our adult ‘Play it Again’ bands.
The performance times are – 5.30 – 9.00pm.
It’s a very relaxed atmosphere, the audience can have a chat throughout the evening without disturbing the performers. It’s a very big room 🙂
Let’s get a thriving music scene happening around Tonbridge.
It’s free to attend, so come early and enjoy the music
Other Gig Opportunities
We also put our students on at local events. Our young band Outlaw pulled a huge crowd at the Classic Car Show.
